The psychology of golf is hard to learn. It is easy to concentrate if you have more contact with the ball. As you are aware you only have contact with your golf ball, fractions of a seconds over 4-5 hours. With other sports such as soccer, basketball or even tennis, you will have a lot of contact with the ball as compared with golf. Golf is a highly competitive game, but it can also be a social game. You can play just by yourself, but we usually play in twosomes and foursomes where we meet. However, we can be easily distracted by foul shots. That is why I say that we need to learn the psychology of golf and how to master it so that we can take lower scores.

To improve our concentration we need to look at how the heart surgeons operate. Heart surgery usually takes an average of 5 hours to complete. Normally these surgeons operate up to 3 operations a day. This total up to 10-15 hours of operating a day. These surgeons are aware that they cannot maintain full concentration during that entire time. They educate themselves to control the flow of the operation. During the easy parts of the operation, they get into a minimal concentration mode. However, when the patient's heart is no longer pumping, they have to complete the surgery fast. During the heart operation, they are in total focus. Their concentration is so high that they can even black out on what is happening around them.

In golf, you also must control the flow of the game. You can start by playing alone by yourself. Go to the golf course early in the morning. This is when the course is usually empty. You must remember not to use a scorecard. When you are alone, you will reduce distractions. Without your score card, you will learn to separate your shots from your score. When you hit the ball, bring your mental focus into the swing. Align yourself to your swing drill and practice turning on your concentration to complete focus on the ball before hitting.

As you learn the psychology of golf and how to master it your golf game will instantly improve. Most golfers are not aware of golf psychology and how to obtain full concentration. They will just go out to the course and hit the balls. Without total concentration, they will be hitting triple bogeys and out of bounds. The golf psychology they are using is not complete.
